I’ve always enjoyed that first moment when I arrive to the edge of the water and the feeling that comes with standing close to it. After all these years, I’m still just a kid that enjoys playing in the water. I always a few minutes spent just watching, listening and disconnecting from the concerns of the busy life I live and connecting with the stream. It’s time I don’t want to hurry through in my rush to get away from that busy life to getting busy engaging in the act of fishing without giving myself just a few minutes of time to listen to the water and get in tune with it. I don’t rig up until I get to the water and give myself that time to connect and watch for a clue that helps to determine what my first pitch will be from a pack full of fly boxes and possibilities. Sometimes I’m rewarded with a clue or a sign that I may have missed if I hadn’t taken the time to just watch to the water, listen, and let it talk. It’s a great moment to give thanks for another day on the water and to get into the rhythm of the stream. Sometimes that can make all the difference in the world.
